Sierra Vista Middle School Matador Band & Choir
The purpose of participating in a Sierra Vista Middle School Music class is to give members:
Musical skills: reading, writing, and performing music in class and public performances.
Use of rhythms, note reading, listening skills, elements of performance, music history, and composition.
Self-esteem and confidence through practice and performances.
Integrate music into learning and life skills.
Chances to develop teamwork, respect, responsibility, and self-discipline.
California Education Standards in Music:
- Creating Music – generate/make, organize & develop artistic music concepts, ideas, and work.
- Performing Music - select, analyze, and interpret artistic work for presentation to help convey meaning.
- Responding to Music – perceive, analyze, interpret meaning in artistic works.
- Connecting Music – relate knowledge and personal experience to music and other works and connect them to ideas within our society, culture, and history.
Our bands, choirs, and orchestras have performed throughout Southern California and continue a tradition of success in representing our school and community of Baldwin Park. Last week we began the process of creating student profiles & entering contacts in our SNAP Raise fundraiser. SNAP Raise is a donation fundraiser (similar to a GoFundMe fundraiser), but SNAP Raise is geared to school groups and activities. 80% of donations collected will go towards students Band or Choir activities through their Clubs so only Band Club and Choir Club members are eligible to participate. The SNAP Raise company, as part of their service keeps 20% of donations as their share of the on-line promotions and administering the fundraiser.
Our goal for our Band Club is $10,000 and our Choir Club is $5,000 raised for upcoming events, like our upcoming Knott's Berry Farm performance (which will cost a considerable amount due to time of our performance and our return time to school). Should our fundraisers be successful, it will help other activities for the semester that the clubs have been discussing.
The final day to set-up student profiles & enter contacts (emails or phone numbers) will be tomorrow, Wednesday. Our fundraiser goes live on Thursday, January 22, and will run for 28 days.
We hope you will help with our efforts to raise funds for our Band & Choir students and please feel free to share your student's link on social medias to further expand the scope of our fundraising efforts.
(Note: this is a voluntary effort by our Band & Choir Clubs and is optional to help raise funds for your child's music program. But if you would prefer to donate directly to the Band & Choir Club for your student, please forward payment directly to the Sierra Vista M.S. music classes so that 100% of your donation goes directly to your child.)
