Hello and Welcome!

 

I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up because I come from a family of teachers. My mother taught elementary students grades K-6 in East Los Angeles and North Hollywood, my uncle was a high school principal before becoming a college professor and administrator at a university, and my grandmother, who lived to be 104, began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in South Dakota earning just $50 in her first paycheck.

 

I graduated from Saint Mary's College of California as an English major and was awarded The LaSallian Educators Fellowship to earn my teaching credentials for secondary English. I loved starting my teaching career with Seniors and Sophomores at Baldwin Park High School, before moving to Sierra Vista Junior High School where I have taught seventh-grade ELA, ELA Honors, ELD, and ASB. This year I am excited to be teaching eighth-grade ELA and ASB/ Leadership.

 

In 2014, I won the SVJ Teacher of the Year Award. During the pandemic, I used my free time to earn two Master's Degrees in Educational Technology and Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University, Irvine. I love using a variety of emergent technology, applications, and tools in our classroom to support student engagement, learning, and creativity.
