Chromebook Policy
⭐ Please bring your charged Chromebook to class every day to access our digital textbook, StudySync, AR, iReady, Flocabulary, and our Google Classroom. Keep your analog (paper) textbook at home.
⭐ Students who disrupt class to charge will receive detention after two warnings.
⭐ Teacher uses Securly to monitor all student activity during class time.
⭐ Distracting and non-educational websites will be blocked during class time.
AR Expectations
⭐ Enjoy 30-45 minutes of daily reading practice as homework.
⭐ Students may only take quizzes on books completely and carefully read from cover to cover
⭐ AR quizzes can only be taken once.
⭐ Always have an AR book in class and take it home each day to read for homework.
⭐ AR quizzes will be taken in the ELA class or Library until 3 pm.
⭐AR Goal Due Dates for 2023-2024:
GP1: 9/15/23; GP2: 10/27/23; GP3: 12/1/23; GP4: 2/16/24; GP5: 4/8/24; GP6: 5/31/24
⭐ AR is part of the Assessment Category (40%):
Raw score = 100 pts. For Comprehension, 100 points for Point Goal.
½ of grade Points - ex) 10 points out of 12 = 83%
½ of grade percent - average percent correct: ex) 80 % correct
iReady Expectations
⭐Students will spend 45+ minutes on task and pass two iReady Reading Lessons.
⭐10% of the overall grade will be based on lessons passed each week.
⭐ Extra Credit will be awarded to students who show extra effort on their iReady by passing three or more lessons and spending at least 60 minutes on task each week.
Homework Policy
⭐Students will spend time enjoying their AR book every day after school.
⭐Classwork that is not completed in class becomes homework and is the responsibility of the student to finish and submit on time.
⭐All classwork assigned each week will be completed and submitted by Friday.
Late Work Policy
⭐The assignments from each week must be completed and submitted by Friday.
⭐ Any student who needs extra time for any reason may submit their completed weekly assignments until Sunday at 9 pm for credit.
⭐If extra additional time is required as a result of an unexpected emergency, the student and the parent may contact the teacher to make special accommodations.
Extra Credit
⭐ Extra Credit will be awarded to students who show extra effort on their iReady Lessons by passing 3 or more lessons and spending at least 60 minutes on task each week.
⭐ Donations of gently used and previously loved books to our classroom library will also be rewarded with extra credit.
⭐ Participation in School Events and activities may be rewarded with extra credit.
Discipline Policy
- 1st offense: warning, possible parent contact, possible detention
- 2nd offense: parent contact, detention, possible referral
- 3rd offense: parent contact, referral, possible Friday Night School or Saturday School
🌟 Detention Forms sent home require a Parent or Legal Guardian's Signature and must be returned the following day. Failure to do this will cause additional detention to be issued every day until it is returned with the parent/ guardian's signature.
Bathroom/ Water Fountain Policy
1. Students will use page 128 in their Agenda to record their request BEFORE asking to leave class during instructional time.
2. Then the student will silently raise their hand to show the teacher two crossed fingers 🤞 indicating that they wish to leave the classroom.
3. Teacher will silently grant permission unless it is the first or last five minutes of class or there is direct instruction and no other students are out of the room.
4. The student will take the Hall Pass and the teacher will initial page 128 in the Agenda.
⭐ Students earning an A in ELA8 get unlimited breaks.
⭐ Students earning a B in ELA8 get five breaks.
⭐ Students earning a C in ELA8 get three breaks.
⭐ Students earning a D or an F in ELA8 get one break and need to work to raise their grades.
Absences
⭐ If a student is absent from class for any reason, it is their responsibility to check our Google Classroom daily for all missed work assignments, and announcements.
⭐ All Absent Work must be completed and submitted on time to our Google Classroom or StudySync. If extra time is needed, the student or parent/ guardian must contact Ms. Lang ([email protected]).
